What is the Best service for PDA or a Blackberry?

I will be purchasing a Blackberry or PDA for business purposes. I need to know which service provider (Horizon, Sprint, Cingular, etc) would be the most reliable. This would be used for on-call hospital emergency calls. So it would have to have a great signal and range. People’s life would be on the line. The area would be in NYC. Please discuss in detail!
