A Quick Look at the Classic Blackberry 7520

One of the breakthroughs in Blackberry’s is the 7520. Its predecessor, the 7510 had no Bluetooth function and its memory card was a mere 16MB. The company has rectified both these problems in the Blackberry 7520, which boasts a decent 32MB memory card and comes with a Bluetooth feature as a standard. Other salient features include the GPS enablement, web browser, a full QWERTY keyboard (for those who can’t get enough of it on their desktops), a nifty track wheel and a huge 65,000 TFT color display.

It should also be noted that the resolution of the screen is 240 x 160 pixels. It has a standard talk time of nearly three hours and a standby time of around three days. Although not the most powerful Blackberry today (due to the introduction of the 8800 and Pearl ranges), this definitely was a breakthrough model for Blackberry as it came with Bluetooth.

The Downside

The Blackberry 7520 has no expansion slot like its competitors. A mere 32MB cannot phase super phones of today such as the Apple iPhone; the Blackberry 7520’s 32MB stay at 32MB with no option for increase. Therefore, this Blackberry is not best suited as a data storage device, regardless of the type of data.
Another relatively smaller drawback to the Blackberry 7520 is the lack of an infra-red port. This is not as much of a drawback considering most infra-red devices have been upgraded to Bluetooth ones by now. Another negative feature of this phone is its weight - weighing in at 6.10 oz., this is a very heavy phone.

In conclusion, the Blackberry 7520 is a phone which revolutionized the PDA range due to its Bluetooth capability. If you are looking for a powerful PDA phone with an integrated camera and large flash memory, this is not the phone for you. But if you want a basic PDA phone with decent features for a fraction of a new PDA phone’s price the Blackberry 7520 is the device for you. Please note that the Blackberry 7520 has been discontinued, but you can find a used one for less than $350.
